What is Fire Fight?

Fire Fight is, quite simply, an amazing game. It has been called "Action Game of the Year" and "Sleeper Hit of the Year". It is somewhat like Othello boasts on its box: A minute to learn, a lifetime to master. The game is what is often termed a "top-down shooter", but unlike its contemporaries Raptor and Tyrian, Fire Fight has 360-degree action over multileveled, beautifully intricate maps. The graphics are good, the sound is the high-quality you expect from Epic, and the multiplayer is in a class by itself. Fire Fight features a variety of mission objectives, from "destroy everything in sight" to "rescue POWs and then destroy everything in revenge" to "blow stuff up under the warm and fuzzy banner of peace". The single player game has 2 difficulty levels and individual keyboard/joystick settings for each player. But the true draw of Fire Fight is the multiplayer mode.
You can play with up to 4 players over a LAN using IPX. The unique map-choosing setup makes the decision of which map to play a democratic system: everyone must agree on each match. Running scores are kept for each game. There are 2 multiplayer modes in Fire Fight: Firefight, the standard deathmatch with plentiful ammo and powerups, and Base Building, where each player has their own base and must collect a certain number of base parts to win. As you collect base parts, your base gets more defenses (at 50, your base is armed with 3 turrets!). Hitting another player will cause that player to drop some base parts; killing them will release them all in a catastrophic explosion.
When you kill your opponent, the first player to run over his wreckage gets all his ammo, allowing for a single kill to completely overturn the opponent (since to the victor belongs the ammunition). Fire Fight comes with 6 multiplayer maps: four on Argus High, one on Darius, and one on Jarventia.

The Story

Sometime in the future, the galaxy is at peace. More or less. The Dominion of Man is ruled by the Phantom Council, transmitting its decrees from a hidden base in complete secrecy. The word of the Council is law. As the crack pilot Jaxon, you command the latest and greatest technology in law enforcement: the '99 Jagger. Armed to the teeth with everything from machine guns to plasma bombs to cloaking devices, you are on a mission: protect the galaxy and put down rebellion in the name of justice. Fight over and around eerie ice walls, devastate the landscape, fly through jungles and wastelands, and rescue hostages.

The council has ruled and the verdict is guilty. Eliminate all resistance. Good luck.
